Denver rolled to two victories on their trip to North Dakota, with Isabella Chidiac once again at the heart of things for the Pioneers. The senior was threatening throughout as Denver eked out a 1-0 win over North Dakota, rattling off three shots in 67 minutes, but her performance against North Dakota State was one of her most well-rounded of the campaign. Chidiac tallied four shots with two on target, and once again delivered a corner that was guided home by Emma Thielbahr for a 71st minute winner as the Pioneers defeated the Bison 2-1. The Summit League is currently a mish-mash of teams that have played either one or two games, but Denver sit atop the pile as the only team to have won two games at this early stage. As they love to say, points in the pocket are better than games in hand.
Two consecutive draws to open conference play wasn’t an ideal start for Little Rock, but their two Aussie upperclassmen ensured the Trojans would pick up a win over SIU Edwardsville to set themselves on their way in 2025. With program legend Peyton Urban keeping things locked down between the sticks, Serenity Thake lashed one home from just inside the ares in the 58th minute to put her team up 1-0. Just seven minutes later, Candice Kilderry would earn an assist as Little Rock doubled their lead as a teammate slotted home the rebound after the Victorian’s almost perfect free kick hit the bar. 2-0 would be the final result as the Trojans slotted themselves into fourth position through three of nine conference games. Intriguingly, upstart Eastern Illinois sit undefeated in top spot at the moment after being tipped to finish fifth, so there is plenty to play out.
Fresno State knocked off Nevada this week, but they needed help from Shivani Battaglia to do so as the Western Australian produced a match-winning effort between the sticks. The Wolfpack put six shots on target, but Battaglia repelled every one to finish the game with her second-highest save total of the season as the Bulldogs attack also fired on the way to a 3-0 victory. The Bulldogs have now scored the most goals of any team in the Mountain West Conference and are also one of only four teams yet to reach double figures for goals conceded, a stat helped in no small part by Battaglia’s performances.
