2025 Week 8 Wrap

Isabella Chidiac has elevated herself to a new level in 2025, but there was one thing missing alongside those sumptuous passes and pinpoint corners that have produced six assists: a goal. No longer is that the case after the senior hammered the final nail into Kansas City’s coffin as Denver rolled to a 3-0 victory. Denver dominated from start to finish, with two first half goals leaving in the Pioneers in complete control as Kansas City struggled to put a shot on target, finishing with just one for the game. However, Denver weren’t satisfied with merely shutting down their opponents, as a ball across the box paired with Chidiac’s perfectly timed back post run saw the Sydneysider bang home a first collegiate goal and leave no doubt as to who would be leaving with the three points. A loss to Oral Roberts on Sunday will rankle, but the Pioneers remain level atop the Summit League, although they have played one more game than the Golden Eagles side that defeated them on the weekend. Nonetheless, this Denver side has plenty to be optimistic about with four games remaining in conference play.

On the topic of Aussies producing sumptuous passes, Isabella Stein did just that as Long Island defeated Stonehill as part of a weekend that saw the Sharks take four of a possible six points. Having given up a 6th minute opener, LIU had plenty of time to muster a comeback, and a penalty in the final minute before halftime tied things up, but Stonehill had had most of the momentum and handily led the shot count heading into the final 20 minutes. However, Stein surgically unpicked the Stonehill defence with a through ball that allowed Casey Beauregard to round the Skyhawks goalkeeper and put the Sharks up with 15 minutes to play. 2-1 would be the final score, with ten saves from LIU goalkeeper Keely Thomas helping the Sharks to victory despite the shots on target finishing 11-4 in Stonehill’s favour. With this win, the Sharks are one of five teams in the Northeast Conference to have broken away from the chasing pack. Even with six games to play, it looks as though the four conference tournament teams will come from this group that also contains Fairleigh Dickinson, Central Connecticut State, Howard, Wagner.

Adelaide Wyrzynski has been used primarily in an impact role off the bench for Tarleton State this season, and the sophomore certainly played the role as the Texans eked out a 4-3 win in a wild game against Utah Tech. With the score at 1-1 and the clock ticking into the final five minutes of the opening half, a corner headed towards goal by a Texans teammate found its way to Wyrzynski, who headed home to put her side up 2-1. Annoyingly, Utah Tech responded just 50 seconds later, but two Gabrielle Williams goals after halftime were enough to stave off a late comeback attempt from the Trailblazers. The win provided Tarleton State with their first points in conference play, and the Texans now sit just a point back from the four-team tournament spots in the six-team Western Athletic Conference.

At the other end of the pitch, a couple of the star goalkeepers featured in last week’s article put up massive performances, even if results didn’t quite go their way. Looking to bounce back from a midweek defeat to Sacred Heart, Canisius faced Fairfield in a battle of MAAC heavyweights, and the Stags threw everything they had at Chloe Tseros and the Canisius defence. Tseros came up with an impressive seven saves, but two first half goals from Fairfield were just too much to overcome as Canisius were held to three shots on target. A goal in the first minute of the second half gave the Golden Griffins a chance, but Fairfield would hold on for a 2-1 victory and a potentially crucial three points. Nonetheless, Tseros’ performance kept Canisius in with a chance for the 90 minutes and on another day could have resulted in at least a point for her side.

Meanwhile, it took an absolute worldie to beat Libby Davy as the South Australian kept George Mason in with a sniff even as Duquesne rained hell on the Patriots’ goal. The Dukes outshot George Mason 28-3, but 12 saves from Davy ensured her team would be in with a chance despite their limited opportunities in front of goal. It was one of those days where it would take something special to beat Davy, and unfortunately Duquesne were able to produce a curling effort that found the top corner in the 17th minute for the only goal of the contest. However, like Tseros, Davy’s performance could easily have garnered George Mason three points on another day or against a different opponent. The 12-save effort also moved Davy into second for both save percentage and total saves among Australians in NCAA Division I, whilst Tseros now leads all Australians for total saves in 2025.
