It was but a short period of interest for fans of Australian players in the NCAA Tournament this season, as all three Aussies played their first-round matches concurrently, with each falling to defeat to seeded opponents. Kate Ryan was the only one of the trio to feature, playing the full 90 minutes as Dartmouth’s much vaunted defence put up a valiant effort against Arkansas before falling to a 1-0 defeat courtesy of a goal just after the hour mark.
Meanwhile, neither Grace Wilson nor Montana-Rose Currey featured as Maine and High Point fell to defeats to UCF and Virginia respectively. However, the runs that both teams produced just to reach the tournament in the first place must be commended, with High Point coming from the clouds after a horrific start to the season, and Maine securing an unlikely threepeat after only earning the four-seed in the America East tournament courtesy of a final day victory over New Hampshire.
Focus now turns to 2026, with National Signing Day occurring this week. A handful of Australians have already announced their commitments, and we’ll have more news on these players in the coming days and weeks.
