Tarleton State faced NCAA Division III opponent Schreiner in their only game of the week, and as the goals piled up, the Texans’ Australian contingent took full advantage. Charlie Shanahan tallied a first career assist just after the half-hour mark, teeing up Phoebe Riley for her fellow Australian’s first collegiate goal. Mere seconds later, Adelaide Wyrzynski supplied the cross for Tarleton State’s fifth goal in 32 minutes. The Texans continued to pile on the goals, with Riley firing home from just outside the area for her second goal to round out the scoring and see the game finish 9-0. The result sees Tarleton State finish non-conference play 6-2-2, with their WAC schedule commencing next week on the road at Utah Valley and Cal Baptist.
Riley wasn’t the only Aussie based in Texas to notch their first collegiate goal this weekend, though. Montanna Mathews has been a threat for Incarnate Word all season, and it was the Nicholls State side led by Australian head coach Kristy Helmers that felt the full brunt of the sophomore’s first successful strike. Mathews’ incisive run down the left wing turned from dangerous to outright lethal as she cut in before beating a defender and unleashing a shot that left the Colonels’ goalkeeper with no chance to put Incarnate Word up 2-0 with 13 minutes to play, which would be the final score. After playing 564 minutes in 14 appearances in 2024, Mathews has already eclipsed that minute total prior to the halfway mark of the 2025 campaign, and now has a first collegiate goal and assist under her belt.
The big matchup between Kate Ryan and Erin Gordon didn’t fail to deliver as Dartmouth and Harvard battled back and forth before Ryan tallied the winner for the Big Green’s first win in Cambridge since 2005. Although Harvard outshot Dartmouth 13-6, the teams placed only two shots apiece on target. However, one of those shots on target came on Dartmouth’s only corner of the game, with a header rebounding into Ryan’s path just inches from goal. The junior tapped in to send the Dartmouth team into raptures, before the Big Green held on despite Harvard having four corners in the last four minutes. Ryan, who had played just 34 minutes in her previous two seasons at Dartmouth, now has a goal and an assist to her name in addition to playing all but 19 minutes in 2025. Gordon was also heavily involved, starting for the Crimson and playing 76 minutes as the sophomore remains an integral part of the Harvard defence.
Another Aussie in green also found the net for the first time this week, as Ava Blizzard nodded home for Loyola Maryland to secure a 1-1 draw at home to Holy Cross in their Patriot League opener. Down 1-0 after conceding a 68th minute opener, Blizzard ensured parity was returned quickly. Having subbed in just 90 seconds earlier, the sophomore made a perfect run to head home the equaliser in the 74th minute. Having not made a single appearance in 2024, Blizzard has now made seven appearances off the bench in 2025, and a first goal is surely a good omen for more playing time in future matches.
Little Rock faced both a six-hour weather delay and a highly fancied opponent in Tennessee Tech, but Candice Kilderry made sure the wait was worth it as the midfielder ensured the Trojans would secure a draw in their conference opener. The visitors had plenty of chances throughout the game, but a lack of accuracy saw Little Rock trail to a 40th-minute Tennessee Tech opener as the weather returned with a vengeance to stop play for half an hour with seven minutes to play. However, upon the resumption, Little Rock came out firing, tallying five shots to zero after the delay, with Kilderry firing the last of those five into the back of the net with just 32 seconds remaining. The goal, Kilderry’s third of the campaign, keeps the Victorian atop the goalscoring charts among Aussies and takes her to 11 for her college career.
Siena perhaps weren’t in desperate need of a win after picking up only a solitary point from their first two MAAC games, but they were in danger of falling out of touch with the conference leaders before dismantling Niagara 3-0, with Iona Snape crucial in getting the Saints off to a good start. The senior’s opening minute shot could only be parried by the Niagara goalkeeper, with a Siena teammate right there to fire home the rebound and send the Saints on their way. Snape would finish with two shots on target and a first assist of the season in her 58 minutes of action as the Saints moved to 4 points, five points off MAAC leaders Canisius and their Aussie goalkeeper Chloe Tseros.
Meanwhile, there was a long-awaited debut for another Aussie in the MAAC as freshman Stella Tosoni made her first appearance for Quinnipiac. With the Bobcats leading Mount St. Mary’s 5-1, Tosoni was one of a group of five players sent in to perform clean-up duty for the final 11 minutes as the home side rolled to remain undefeated at 2-0-1 in three conference games and sit two points behind Chloe Tseros and Canisius in the MAAC.
Having mentioned her team’s league position twice, there is no better time to mention Chloe Tseros as one of the better performing Aussie goalkeepers added another milestone to her fledging collegiate résumé. Although Tseros has been making plenty of saves, the sheer volume of shots she has faced has made keeping a clean sheet exceedingly difficult to this point. However, that all changed as Canisius defeated Rider 2-0, with Tseros saving the only two shots on target that she faced. Whilst it wasn’t the busiest night for the freshman, that probably isn’t the worst thing for a goalkeeper who has already made six or more saves three times this season, including nine on debut against Buffalo, and was fresh off making seven in a 4-2 win over Merrimack last week.
