Little Rock and their Australian triumvirate of Claudia Hewitt, Serenity Thake, and Candice Kilderry are in little to no danger of missing the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, but they will still want to secure the best seeding possible in the 8-team event. Currently sitting level on points with Lindenwood in fourth position, the Trojans have a real chance to put some distance between themselves and the chasing pack as they take on UT Martin and Morehead State this week. UT Martin have only six losses in 13 games this season, but five of those other results have been 0-0 draws as the Skyhawks have scored just seven goals in compiling a 1-6-6 record. However, that also means that their defence is fairly solid, having conceded only 11 goals. The Skyhawks are led by their goalkeeping, with their save percentage sitting in the top 20 in the nation, but Little Rock average two goals per game. Candice Kilderry has been involved in six of the Trojans’ 22 goals, whilst Serenity Thake also has a goal and an assist under her belt this season.
Meanwhile, Morehead State had plenty of success last season with Lilly Bailey between the sticks, but things have not gone quite so well for the Eagles in 2025. Currently sitting at 3-10, an attack that averages just 0.46 goals per game is yet to score more than one goal in a game this season. If the Little Rock attack can fire, this has the potential to be a very good weekend for the Trojans, and all three Aussies, but particularly Kilderry, could find themselves involved.
In a similar vein, Izzy Stein and LIU face two teams down the order in the Northeast Conference as they host Le Moyne and 2025 NCAA Division I newcomers New Haven. Currently sitting in equal second, Long Island’s final four games come against the remainder of the top 5, so picking up a perfect six points this weekend is paramount. Neither of their opponents this week has posted a win all season, with Le Moyne sitting at 0-9-3 and New Haven languishing at 0-6-1. Conversely, LIU are undefeated in their last five games and Stein is in good form. The Sydneysider tallied a superb assist last week to move to two for the season alongside two goals, and if she and the remainder of the Sharks attack can reprise their recent form, the Sharks can just about bank the two wins now.
Margaux Chauvet and Purdue find themselves just outside the tournament spots in the Big Ten with five games to play, and this weekend provides two opportunities of different kinds. First up, the Boilermakers head to Nebraska to take on a Cornhuskers team languishing near the bottom of the league. However, Nebraska are hardly easybeats, having compiled a 5-3-5 overall record to this point and picking up three draws in six league games to this point. Nonetheless, Purdue will need three points under their belt from this one before they head to Illinois for their second game of the weekend. The Illini currently sit on ten points, three ahead of Purdue but also two clear of the cut line for the Big Ten tournament. Whilst it would be an upset of sorts for Purdue to pick up the win at Demirjian Field, it is definitely not out of the reckoning and would be a massive boon for the Boilermakers’ chances.
Montanna Mathews and Incarnate Word also have five games left in their league season, and are sitting pretty at second position in the Southland heading into their game against Houston Christian. The Huskies sit ninth in the 11-team league, but intriguingly have compiled a 6-6-1 record, with their non-conference schedule comprised of some heavy-hitters and lesser lights and not a lot in between. However, they have picked up only four points in their first four conference games and find themselves outside the tournament spots at this stage. Meanwhile, three points for Incarnate Word would give them a handy buffer and almost cement their spot in the conference tournament with still a few weeks to play. Montanna Mathews will once again be expected to torch the opposition on the flanks, with her play at both ends of the pitch one of the highlights of the Cardinals’ season.
