Yet another Canberra-based player has made the switch to a Division I college, with Tuggeranong United striker Kristy Helmers continuing the Aussie presence at Nicholls State, signing with the Colonels. A shadow player for the Australian schoolgirls side, Helmers finished in the top five goalscorers in the Capital Football Women’s Premier League in 2015, scoring 12 goals in 14 games.
With Jess Coates being an integral part of the Nicholls State side for her entire college career, Colonels’ coach Dylan Harrison is already well aware of what an Australian can bring to the program, and will no doubt be excited for Helmers to make a similar impact throughout her four years.
