2025 Week 3 Wrap

Lara Aitken made her mark for Jacksonville State with a debut assist, and added to her burgeoning reputation by finding the back of the net for the first time as the Gamecocks knocked off Alabama A&M. Jacksonville State were in complete control throughout, opening the scoring in the fifth minute and holding the Bulldogs to only two shots on target for the game. With Aitken doubling the lead in the 37th minute, the result was never really in doubt as the Gamecocks waltzed into Huntsville and came away with a win to move to 2-2-2. Aitken finished the game with two shots on target in 41 minutes off the bench, and her choice of program already looks inspired given this start to her career.

Isabella Chidiac has developed into an integral member of the Denver midfield, and once again showcased why as the Pioneers dismantled Southern Utah. The senior posted her second and third assists to help her side pull away late in the contest as Denver rolled to a 4-1 victory, with each of Chidiac’s assists coming after Southern Utah had pulled the score back to 2-1. A sumptuous corner was headed home in the 68th minute, before Chidiac produced a second incisive through-ball for an assist in this young season, opening up a one-on-one opportunity for a teammate which was promptly finished. The result sees the Pioneers remain undefeated after three weeks, posting a second win to go with three draws in their first five games.

Incarnate Word dismantled in-state foe Prairie View A&M, and Montanna Mathews was one of several players to find their name on the scoresheet in the 5-0 drubbing. Incarnate Word dominated throughout, but could only find the back of the net once in the first half. However, once Mathews teed up Alex Knutson for her first of two goals for the day, the floodgates opened. The Cardinals banged home four goals after halftime to roll to a 5-0 win, and, despite a loss to Aussie-laden Tarleton State in the second game of the weekend, now sit at a healthy 2-2 after four games.

The sight of Candice Kilderry coming off the bench for Little Rock has been a rare one in recent times, but the Trojans midfielder had no issues making an impact as the Victorian was instrumental in a comeback win over local rivals Central Arkansas. Down 2-0 inside 40 minutes, Little Rock stormed back with goals either side of halftime to tie things up at 2-2. However, with the final 20 minutes approaching, the game remained level until Kilderry intervened. The midfielder provided the assist for what would prove to be the game-winner in the 70th minute, before an 81st minute red card put Central Arkansas right on the back foot for the final 10 minutes. Fellow Australian Serenity Thake played 70 minutes in the win, whilst Claudia Hewitt played a two-minute cameo off the bench. The result moved the Trojans to an even .500 record at 2-2 through four games.
