Adelaide Wyrzynski may have come off the bench in her first few appearances for Tarleton State this season, but the Philippines senior international showed that she can still make a major impact even in reduced minutes as Tarleton State came away with a pair of wins this weekend. With time ticking down towards halftime in the Texans’ contest with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, it was Wyrzynski popping up with the opening goal just ten minutes prior to the break on one of five shots that the Sydneysider would have across the weekend. Four of those shots were on target in just 91 minutes of playing time across the wins over both Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and McNeese State, reminding everyone just how dangerous she can be. Tarleton State now sit 5-2-1, with one game on each of the next two weekends before launching into the final season of the historic Western Athletic Conference on September 25, with the conference rebranding as the United Athletic Conference for 2026 and beyond following a merger with several ASUN programs.
Margaux Chauvet may not have scored a goal during her time in the A-League or in Iceland, but netted a first collegiate goal (link to video here) on her own Senior Day as Purdue comfortably defeated Western Illinois 4-0. After teammate Chiara Singarella had made sure of the victory with a Senior Day hat-trick of her own, a blocked shot by a teammate saw the ball land at the former Sydney FC midfielder’s feet, and Chauvet promptly fired past the Leathernecks’ goalkeeper for the fourth and final goal of the contest. After dropping both games last week, the Boilermakers finished the weekend with a draw against Dayton to go with the win against Western Illinois and move to 3-3-2.
Izzy Stein became the first Aussie to score multiple goals this season, helping Long Island to a win over American side Temple. With the teams still knotted at 0-0 shortly after the interval, a loose ball deflected off an Owls defender and sat up invitingly for the Manly United product. Stein was only too happy to oblige, unleashing a strike that gave the goalkeeper no chance before settling into the back of the net. Temple would equalize 8 minutes later, but an 88th minute goal saw the Sharks win this battle of air and sea. LIU now sit 2-1-2, and if they can maintain this early form going into league play, last year’s 5-win campaign will be but a distant memory 9 weeks from now.
Meanwhile, at the defensive end, Kate Ryan continues to build a potential case for Breakout Player of the Year after helping Dartmouth to a solid weekend on the west coast. Ryan and the Dartmouth defence held their opponents to just 5 shots on target across two games, and although that resulted in a 3-0 win over San Francisco and a 1-0 loss to Santa Clara, the defensive performance will give the team plenty of confidence. Ryan once again played every minute of the weekend, and has still yet to touch the bench since subbing in just 18 minutes into the opening game against Merrimack.
